Why do we apply the turmeric paste lightly
on the edges of the Invitation cards
on asuspicious  occasions ?

The invitation cards are extended to

friends and relatives on the occasions

 of auspicious time.

They are known as Aahvaana patrika.

Particularly on the occasions of marriage

ceremonies, other religious rituals,

and family functions and other purposes

 the invitation cards are used.

For the marriage functions and

the invitations are called  as Subhalekha.

In the mythology, there was a narrative

 that Sree Mahalakshmi and

Sree Jyeshta devi both were  sisters.

There was a discussion among where

they have to  stay and their places.

 The younger sister Sree Mahalakshmi

went to the ocean and remianed  hiding   in it.

The elder sister Sree Jyeshtadevi

wanted her to come out from the ocean.

At the time when their entanglement

has come to solve, Sree Mahalakshmi said

her dwelling place where actually  she stays.

Among those places, the turmeric is

 one where Sree Mahalakshmi lives.

Hence,  for the marriage invitations (Subhalekha) ,

the turmeric paste with gragrance

is smeared to the edges  and invite

 to the Goddess Sree Mahalakshmi.

By following this custom and remembering

that Goddess , there is a belief of

Her Grace will be always with

us what the Mythology says.

The elder sister Sree Jyeshta devi

will not enter to those places.

This kind of custom which is applying

the turmeri paste to the edges  of the

 invitions are also applied for

 the purposes of other occasions.
