What is the bounden duty (complusory)
while doing circumbulation in the Sivalayam ?

The Lord Siva is Abhisheka priyah.

All the sacred enchantings like Rudram,

Namakam, Chamakam, other worshipping

abhishekams are performed in

the temple of Lord Parameswara.

All the Abhishekas (in the form of sacred water,

honey, milk, fruit juices, panchamrutam  etc.,)

which are performed and they  are arranged

to flow through a small channel (duct) in the temple.

That channel is arranged outside towards

the left side of the Lord.

Means normally the Siva temple is built

facing towards the east and the

channel is arranged towards the north.

All the Abhishekams  which is

treated as sacred Ganga.

The devotees , those who want to do

the circumbulation (Pradakshinam),

naturally they will be in  the moods of

 chanting the  mantra and

it is one kind of meditation.

When they start to do the circumbulation

(doing the pradakshina) in clockwise direction,

normally they do not pay attention and

forget the duty and cross that channel.

It means that we are crossing the Ganga.

When doing the pradakshinam, go  in a

clockwise direction upto that channel and

pay the salutation there and get back to the

 Dwajashtambham and go anticlock wise

( from the Dwajasthambham) upto that

channel and agian return to the Dwajashtambham.

This is a complete Circumbulation

for the Lord  in the Siva Temple.

Hence, for this, all the devotees must

pay their attention  and do the

pradakshinam as per the sastras say.

One has to perform the circumbulation

for the abosolution from sins.
