Why are  the ladies’ feet  decorated with the
turmeric, kumkum and lime
on auspicious occasions ?

The ladies’ feet are decorated  specially on

particular functions like wedding occasions,

and on traditional ceremonies in which

 married women get together.

It is one of the important functions for them

as they participate purposefully for

their sowbhagyam which is a happy state of wifehood .

In the turmeric powder , if the lime is added t

hat becomes a red coloured paste

which is auspicious for the women  on the

ceremonies since that paste is aplied  to their

feet by other married woman or unmarried woman.

On the occasions of marriage, that  Paaraani

decoration is made  to the bride and

groom, groom’s sisters (Nananda in sanskrit language) ,

 groom’s mother and other women

connected to their main family members.

More over this kind of tradition which is that

Paaraani  decoration  is made to the ladies feet,

the time of pooja and vratam in the month of Sravana maasa.

The ladies,  whose husbands are alive

 only   participate in these functions.

This kind of Sampradaya (tradition) is observed

dutifully by the women for their

 Sowbhagyam  on those auspicious occasions.

Likewise, the Paaraani which is  docorated to the

feet of the bride and groom and also ward

them off the effects of evil eyes by that water.

Not only observing that  tradition , also there is a reason

that their  minds and thoughts will not

become perturbation as there is interrelated

connection in between the fingers of

the feet, heart and the womb.

So if the Paarani is applied , there will

not be any diseases occured what they believe.

And more over, by following this tradition,

means applying the Paaraani paste to the feet,

there will not be any split (crevice) and

the feet can become smooth and nice looking.
