What is the speciality of the oblation (Naivedyam)
(food offered to the Deity) in the Dhanurmasa (Pushyamasa) ?
In general the Dhanurmasa comes in the month
of December which the Hemanta Rutuh starts.
It is said in our Sastras one has to get up
early in the morning (before 4.30 am).
Once the Kaalakrutyas (morning chores) are over,
one has to worship the God or Goddess.
Ofcourse, in this Dharnurmasa we normally
worship the Godadevi and the lord Sree Narayana
in the form of the lord Sri Krishna Swamy.
The Sastras say one should not go to the see
the elders, pregnant woman and
the infants or babies without taking any
present (Bahumati). In that case, the Lord
who is the creator of this entire universe
must be worshipped atleast with oblation of food offering.
In this Dhanurmasa, at the time of worshipping the God,
the Krusarah (special dish made of rice and split green gram)
Payasam, and Dadhyodanam (curd –rice seasoned with spice)
are offered as prasadam.
In the winter season, the pangs of hungry (jatharaagni)
increases in the stomach and then improves the hungry.
This Jatharaagni gets cooling by eating the
Saatwika food (bland diet).
The milk, curd, green gram are for the cause
of cooling the body. So as they have such
kind of qualities, that kind of Naivedyam is being offered .
As per Ayurveda and Jyotisha Sastras,
if we take the good qualities of that food,
naturally the Satva guna developes and
we can have the best results in our lives.
