What are not considered as
the untruthful offences (Asatya Dosham) ?
In Hindu Dharma Sastras and all other
sacred scripts say in unison (with muktakantam),
every human being must speak the truth only.
Under any circumstances untruth can not be uttered.
In the Vedas it is clearly said “ atyam Vada, Dharmam Chara”.
Means every human being must speak only
the truth and live in the path of the Dharma.
But on some other occasions, if we speak untruth,
it is not to be considered as falsehood (Asatyam).
When a mother feeds (with little dall, ghee and cooked rice)
her baby ( who are ten or twelve months),
if mother says , “see monster or bogey
( word used to frighten children) is coming,
so quickly eat this food”. So there is no Asatya Dosham.
In the marital life, if the husband says to his wife that she is beautiful.
At the time of religious peity (offering danam)
to the Purohit ( learned Brahmin scholar who
does the ritual performances), when he (the Purohit)
chants the Mantras including the Godaanam
eventhough there is no Godaanam (offering the Cow as charity)
that we are not giving, there will not be
any Asatyadosham as per we are concerned.
If others feel unhappy or get hurt when we speak
the truth to them then that is considered
as Asatya dosham means Untruthful offence.
Hence , the harm which happens by speaking the truth
is always superior than the untruth is spoken
when certainly the asupiciousness or
welfare or prosperity happens to others.
Therefore we have to judge ourselves by
our discrimination (Vichakshana Jnanam) which is
Asartya dosham and which is not Asatya dosham.
