Why do we take a special head bath on On
the Radha Saptami Festival day ?
According to the Hindu Almanac, Magha maasa also has got its own speciality for festivals
and all we do head bath specially on the Saptami of Sukla Paksha ( Waxing Moon).
After Pushya Maasa the Magha Maasa comes.
On the Saptami Tidhi ( 7 th day from Sukla Paksha starts) is being called as Radha Saptami.
It is most auspicious for the Deity Sun. The Sun God is for bestowing health. Every one
pray Him and meditate for good health. The Sun is also for the eye sight. These days are
special for the worship of the Sun.
On the Rahda Saptami day the Hindus do the anointing heads early in the monring. But They use two things specially. The one is the unripe fruit of Calatropis gigantea (Arkah in Sanskrit language) and the second is Jujube fruit of the plant called Zigiphus jujuba (Badari in Sanskrit Language).
These two fruits make the head very good. For the head bath the fruit of Zigiphus jujuba
(Badari) and the leaves of Calatropis gigantea (Arkah) both are used which make the body
and head cool. The Zigiphus jujuba (Badari) has got acid quality which is anti-oxidant.
The panacea (Rasayana) ofBadari and leaves of Arkah make the hair strength and cool
the head.
Hence on this Radha Saptami day, if it not possible to take bath at the River, atleast we have to take bath at home with these two things. The God Sun is worshipped with these two things also.
In India some of the places of the States the people have been following this customs
since long long time.
