This Tulasi leaves are used as medicine in Ayurvedic system right from the controlling of cough, cold, headache, blodd pressure etc., It is like an anti-biotic medicine.

In the Kruta Yuga when the Suras (Devatas) were performing the Ksheera Sagar Madhanam for Nector (Amrutam) ( Vasuki, the king of snakes was as rope, Mandara mountain was as churning stick and the ocean of Milk . i.e., ksheerasagar was as the curd) so many celestial things and objects were come out from that process. Some of the celestial obects were sent to this earth (Bhoolokah). So Tulasi is one among those things. Hence the Tulasi is being worshipped.
